Tips to Wash Your Bedding
You spend about a third of your life in bed. It goes without saying that this amount of time can create a rather messy place to sleep. Here are ten things to keep in mind when it comes to cleaning bedding.
- Whatever you do, don't wash the mattress!
You can mop it with a damp cloth to remove spills and stains, but don't immerse any part of the mattress. Traditional spring mattresses contain layers of different materials, some of which retain water, leaving an excellent breeding ground for bacteria. Check the care instructions for the mattress carefully before washing it.
- Surprisingly, electric blankets are often machine washable.
Be sure to read the washing instructions before throwing the heated blanket in the washing machine, as there may be specific instructions for your blanket. Keep in mind that the control box and cable probably won't be washable, and if they're not removable, your electric blanket may need to be hand washed. If you live in a cold climate and use an electric blanket more permanently, consider spending a little more for a blanket that can be washed regularly in the washing machine.
- When you clean sheets and pillowcases, wash them yourself.
With more space in the washing machine, they have more room to wiggle around and therefore wash more thoroughly. It's a great idea to use fabric softener on the sheets, so they feel soft and comfortable when they're on the bed. If possible, dry sheets on the clothesline rather than the dryer, as sunlight is antibacterial and will dry yours too. smelled good.
- Check out the pillow!
If you've gotten to the point where you feel like it's time to wash your pillow, it's probably really time to invest in a new one. The new semi-regular pillows will help you adopt your posture and reduce the buildup of oils your pillow endures over time. If you have feather pillows, you can clean the feathers and wear a new cover to make your pillow look brand new.
- Use the tennis balls!
When drying your bulkier items, such as blankets, doonas, and sheets, put a few old tennis balls in the dryer to fluff them up, help them dry faster, and prevent them from clumping. To prevent the dye from transferring from the balls, place them in a clean white sock, as this will help reduce the marks caused by this process.
- Have feathers, feathers and pillows cleaned and covered by a professional.
There are service people who can come to your home to do this for you. Reuse your feathers, but clean them thoroughly and put them in a fresh new blanket. You should do this every two years, especially if you use these blankets year-round, to keep them clean and fluffy, and as healthy as possible.
- Watch what you put in the washing machine.
We all opened the washing machine after putting the doona blanket on, only to find that it ate all the other clothes. To prevent this from happening, or at least to reduce the number of lost items, close your zipper, buttons or close your doona cover in the wash to prevent items from getting caught.
- Know your bedding.
By this I mean that not all bedding is created equal and different materials need to be washed differently. , you spend a third of your life in your bed, and the more you take care of your bedding, the better your bedding will take care of you.
